Day 12 - Offense/Offense
“Offense/Offense are the times in a match where both athletes need to score. Match is tied, 15 seconds left, who is going to pull the trigger to win. This is what we are talking about. This is attack and counter attacking. So no matter if you are acting or reacting the goal is to move forward in motion.”
- Andy Hrovat
What You Can Control
Over the next 21 days the focus of this class will cover the 5 areas you can control in combat, yoga and life.
Yourself - Day 1-4
Your Environment - Day 5-8
Your Attack - Day 9-12
Your Situation Day 13-16
Your Finish Day 17-21
Our Focus Today Is Offense/Offense
“We have to work at automating our habits and behaviors, so that we are set up for success in moments that demand a quick decision. Do I go here? Do I stop? Do I start?.”
-Em Hrovat
Combat
Offense/Offense are the moments in matches where the score is tied or if you are winning but give up a score you would lose. In this match scenario defense is not an option, the fight becomes attack and counter attack. To be successful in the split second decisions needed to attack and counter attack we must train our minds and bodies ahead of time. Our ability to act and react is faster than we can think and is a product of our training.
Successful training then is determined by automation of patterns and the ability to make good decisions. Good decisions are determined not by our biases but rather if the outcome of the decision works or not. This allows each of us to approach life a little different but still become successful.
Congratulate yourself today for making the decision to be here and to take on this challenge, you are doing great!
Yoga
In the individual practice of yoga offense/offense is our ability to multitask. Specifically breathing, listening and moving. When practice starts to get difficult are we able to commit to our breathwork in order to find strength while listening to the verbal cues in which we depend upon to move.
By increasing focus in all three areas we are able to act and react faster than we can think. By eliminating thinking we elevate our practice to whole new level.
As we continue this challenge start to notice how you breath, listen and move. Pay attention what it does to time, does it stand still? Does it fly by?
Life
In life offense/offense is our ability to make automated decisions as life comes at us fast. How we train our bodies and minds to act and react to what life offers us determines our success. There are no right or wrong actions and reactions, just those that work and don’t work. So instead of trying to determine how we act based on our biases we need to look at the results to determine what works and doesn’t work.
Today notice the automated decisions in our life - what we eat and drink, when we sleep and how we move. Ask yourself if your automated decisions are meeting your desired outcome. If they are great job, if not how can you improve your ability to make split second decisions.
“In life we don’t want to have to make those mundane decisions. We need to know how we are going to act and think before life comes at us. ”
