Day 19 - How To Redirect Your Finish

“The finish we set out for isn’t always what we get. Sometimes we get redirected. At this moment we can either choose to give up and look at our efforts as a failure or we can continue to move forward. The ability to get redirected, assess our new situation then pick a new finish is what experts call the flow state.”

What You Can Control

Over the next 21 days the focus of this class will cover the 5 areas you can control in combat, yoga and life.

  1. Yourself - Day 1-4

  2. Your Environment - Day 5-8

  3. Your Attack - Day 9-12

  4. Your Situation Day 13-16

  5. Your Finish Day 17-21

Our Focus Today Is How To Redirect Your Finishes

"In yoga every exit out of a pose leads to an entrance into a new pose. The quality of your engagement within these transitions is what determines your ability to tap into the flow state on your mat. "

-Em Hrovat

Combat

What we aim for isn’t always where we will end up. In wrestling if your finish gets redirected you will end up in a new situation that will require a new set of finishes. Learning to adjust and move on is a very important skill to work on. If practiced and trained enough your ability to adjust and move on will happen without thought.

It is during our time without thought where we can just be.

Yoga

Vinyasa Yoga in practice is the definition of flow. With every exit of a pose you enter into a new pose. During practice no state of being is permanent and each moment is to be observed without bias.

Over time you will find yourself in familiar situations where your body and mind  draw on past experiences for guidance and invoke curiosity to learn something new.

What in your past experience helped guide you in today’s practice? What is something new you learned that you can apply tomorrow?

Life

As you navigate through life you can be assured that eventually you will get redirected and end up in a totally different place than you expected. Our control over the circumstance starts with how we interpret the events. We can either be a victim or the hero. Choose to be the hero where everything makes you stronger and the advantage is always on your side.

Your challenge is take some time today and reflect on how 2020 went for you. What events made you a hero? What events made you stronger? Notice what is currently working in your favor.

"To be a complete wrestler knowing your finish isn’t good enough. You have to be prepared to get redirected, assess a new situation and learn to move forward. "

— Andy Hrovat
