Day 8 - Hand Fighting
“In combat hand fighting is used to steer and direct your opponent to where you them to be. The reason that this is important is it allows you to dictate where the fight goes.”
- Andy Hrovat
What You Can Control
Over the next 21 days the focus of this class will cover the 5 areas you can control in combat, yoga and life.
Yourself - Class 1-4
Your Environment - Class 5-8
Our Focus Today Is Hand Fighting
“Today’s class focused on being deliberate in the placement of our hands and feet. For the purpose of directing our body in a specific way.” - Em Hrovat
Combat
Hand fighting is the first physical encounter between opponents and is the most effective way to control the environment. Depending on the match situation we can use hand fighting to set up attacks or shut down opponents.
What is something you setting up today for the future? What is something you are shutting down that no longer holds a purpose?
Yoga
In today’s class we extended our limbs and guided our bodies with our hands and feet to lead us into poses and to find buoyancy and stability.
From today’s class which pose can you find more buoyancy? Which pose could you use more stability?
Life
In life it is extremely important to control your environment but the details of the matter are not worthy of any highlight. In order to control our environment we need to pay attention to the details that are right in front, staring us down.
The challenge today is to take a physical piece of your environment and reposition it to better set yourself up in the future. Some examples are to minimize your kitchen counters for a better cooking experience, spruce up that home yoga studio to make it more welcoming, or just place the book you want to read on the nightstand so you can see it daily.
“In combat the skillful use of your hands to direct your opponent is the most effective way of controlling your environment. This sets you up to be more successful in your attacks.”
— Andy Hrovat
