Day 14 - How Did You Get In This Situation

“The reason we want to know how we got in to the situation is so that we can look back and see if that situation was advantageous for us or a disadvantage. That way we can look at the statistics to determine which situations we want to avoid and which situations we want to recreate in the future.”

- Andy Hrovat

What You Can Control

Over the next 21 days the focus of this class will cover the 5 areas you can control in combat, yoga and life.

  1. Yourself - Day 1-4

  2. Your Environment - Day 5-8

  3. Your Attack - Day 9-12

  4. Your Situation Day 13-16

  5. Your Finish Day 17-21

Our Focus Today Is How Did You Get In This Situation

"The only way that you can begin to learn from the situation you’re in and understand how you got there is by slowing down and stopping long enough to take a look at what’s actually there."

— Em Hrovat

Combat

In combat before we attack we have a plan of where we want to go, but due to the nature of the sport we are guaranteed to be met with resistant. So the situation we end up in is not always going to be the one we envisioned.

So to best learn from our situation we need to first name the situation we are in and from there determine what lead us there. This way as we get more experience we can avoid situations we are not strong at and hyper focus ones we like and are successful in.

Yoga

In yoga what pose or situation we are in is determined by the teacher. How we land in the situation is reliant on our actions and set up leading up.

How are we aligned before the instructions? Are we moving with our breath? How do each impact where we land in the pose/situation.

Which pose/situation from today’s practice do you enter in with ease? Which pose/situation is a struggle to get in to?

Life

It’s really important to begin looking at your situation and being open to learning from it. In life situations can be short lived moments of years long. Today’s challenge is to pick one situation you are currently in. Look at topics like relationship, diet, work, hobby or faith to get inspiration.

What are you doing well?

What can you do better to improve?

"You have to first get to the situation before you’re capable looking back to see how you got there. This is helpful because it allows us to gravitate to things that are successful and eliminate those that are stopping and defeating us."

-Andy Hrovat
